The All Progressives Congress governorship candidate in Ogun State, Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, has threatened legal action against two individuals over claims that he is an indigene of Ekiti State.
Adeola, who represents Ogun West in the Senate, gave Hon. Abayomi Hunye, a suspended APC member from Tube in Ipokia Local Government Area, and Ambassador Folake Marcus-Bello of the Peoples Democratic Party 24 hours to provide evidence supporting the claims or face legal action.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday by his media adviser, Kayode Odunaro, the two individuals made the claims during separate interviews on Channels Television programmes.
Odunaro said Hunye and Marcus-Bello alleged that Adeola was from Ekiti State but failed to provide evidence to substantiate their claims.
Reacting to the allegations, Adeola described them as false and libellous and demanded that both individuals produce evidence of his state of origin within 24 hours.
“I watched in utter disbelief as these characters that I hardly know utter assertive and outrageous lies about my origin without any proof,” the senator said.
He accused one of the individuals of claiming on television that he was from Ekiti but failing to identify the specific location when asked, while alleging that the other made claims about the burial locations of his parents.
“Enough is enough. They should produce their evidence in 24 hours or be ready for my lawsuits,” Adeola warned.
The controversy comes amid renewed debate over Adeola’s ancestral ties ahead of the 2027 Ogun State governorship election.
Traditional leaders in Kemta, Ogun State, have previously affirmed his connection to the community.
The Oluwo of Kemta and Baaye of Egbaland, Chief Abayomi Rotimi, made the declaration at a press conference held at the Ile Ogboni of Kemta.
Rotimi described Adeola as a son of the community, stressing that political differences should not be allowed to affect traditional institutions.
“Yayi is one of us. He is our son. We have different political parties here. We have PDP, APC, Accord and others. Whoever is our son is our son,” he said.
He urged residents to exercise their political choices freely but cautioned against bringing partisan politics into the affairs of the traditional institution.
Rotimi also dismissed social media reports alleging that the Ile Ogboni of Kemta had been shut because of Adeola’s relationship with the community.
He described the reports as false and politically motivated, challenging those behind them to visit the premises and verify the situation.
Adeola’s media adviser said the allegation concerning the senator’s purported Ekiti origin had previously been used as a political campaign against his emergence as the senator representing Ogun West.
The statement added that the claim had resurfaced amid what it described as Adeola’s growing political momentum ahead of the 2027 Ogun State governorship election.
