Seven people have died and two others sustained injuries in a multiple road crash on the Ibafo section of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State.
The Ogun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed the incident in a statement issued in Abeokuta by the Chief Superintendent Route Commander, Afolabi Odunsin.
According to Odunsin, the crash occurred at about 12:03 a.m. on Monday, August 24, 2026, along the Ibafo-Lagos corridor at Kara, Ibafo, and involved three vehicles: a white HOWO CNG/CIMC ENRIC truck, a white MACK trailer and a Mitsubishi Canter.
He said nine male passengers were involved in the crash, with seven killed and two others injured.
The FRSC Ibafo Outpost Command received the report at about 4:04 a.m. and arrived at the scene five minutes later.
Odunsin said the crash was classified as a fatal multiple road traffic crash, with speed violation identified as the probable cause, subject to further investigation.
The deceased victims were evacuated by the Ogun State Ambulance Service, while the injured were taken to a medical facility for treatment. The vehicles were subsequently handed over to the Motor Traffic Division of the Nigeria Police Force, Ibafo, for further action.
The Sector Commander, Oludare Ogunjobi, urged motorists, particularly drivers of articulated vehicles, to avoid excessive speed, maintain safe following distances and remain vigilant while driving.
He also advised motorists to exercise extra caution at night, noting that poor visibility and fatigue could increase the risk of crashes.
Ogunjobi expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and wished the injured victims a speedy recovery.
