Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane has been voted Germany’s 2026 Player of the Year by the country’s sports journalists, finishing ahead of teammate Michael Olise.
The England captain earned the honour after a remarkable season in which he helped Bayern win the Bundesliga and German Cup, while also reaching the Champions League semi-finals.
Kane scored 61 goals in all competitions for Bayern last season. He also netted six times as England advanced to the World Cup semi-finals before losing to Argentina.
Bayern manager Vincent Kompany was named Coach of the Year, while club captain Giulia Gwinn won the women’s Player of the Year award.
The awards are decided by 695 members of the German sports journalists association, with Bundesliga players and German footballers based abroad eligible for selection.
Kane, 33, is the first Englishman to win the prestigious award. Olise finished second for the second consecutive year, having previously lost out to Florian Wirtz in 2025.
“It’s almost impossible to find the right superlatives to describe Harry Kane — sometimes I’m at a loss for words,” Bayern sporting director Max Eberl said.
“He’s already been named England’s Footballer of the Year, and now he’s also won it in Germany.”
Kane is also among the favourites for the Ballon d’Or, which will be presented in London in October.
