The United Kingdom Government has appointed Vicky Seymour as its new Deputy High Commissioner to Nigeria, succeeding Gill Lever OBE, who completed her diplomatic posting in June 2026.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the UK Government said Seymour has assumed office in Abuja, where she will support efforts to deepen the UK’s partnership with Nigeria across key areas, including economic growth, security, migration, development, international cooperation and people-to-people ties.
Seymour brings more than 20 years of experience in diplomacy, international development and public service.
Before her appointment, she served as Head of the East Africa Department at the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), a position she held from 2023.
She previously led the FCDO’s Trade Diplomacy Department and also served as Development Director in Mozambique.
Her diplomatic career includes senior leadership roles across Africa, including postings in Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo, as well as in Afghanistan. She has also worked extensively on climate, security and economic development issues.
Before joining the UK Civil Service, Seymour worked in the not-for-profit sector, focusing on migration.
