The Oyo State Government has received two surveillance aircraft acquired to strengthen security operations and enhance intelligence gathering across the state.
The aircraft arrived at the Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport in Ibadan on Tuesday and are expected to improve aerial surveillance, intelligence collection and rapid response to security threats within Oyo State and neighbouring areas.
Confirming the development in a statement issued in Ibadan, the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dotun Oyelade, said the arrival of the aircraft represents a major milestone in the state’s efforts to boost security through advanced surveillance capabilities.
“The arrival of the aircraft marks another step in the state’s efforts to strengthen security operations through improved intelligence gathering and aerial surveillance,” the statement read.
Oyelade recalled that Governor Seyi Makinde had, on July 18, 2026, announced that the aircraft had arrived in Nigeria and were being reassembled at the Nigerian Air Force hangar in Lagos before their final delivery to Oyo State.
He added that the government had assured residents about a week earlier that the aircraft would be delivered before the end of July, noting that Tuesday’s arrival fulfilled that commitment.
According to the commissioner, the surveillance platforms will support security agencies, including the Amotekun Corps and other relevant security formations, in tracking criminal activities and improving response to security threats across the state.
Oyelade also disclosed that Governor Makinde was present at the airport to receive the aircraft.
The Oyo State Government announced the acquisition of the two surveillance aircraft on July 8, 2025, as part of broader efforts to strengthen the operational capacity of security agencies in addressing emerging security challenges.
Their arrival comes months after Governor Makinde unveiled plans to procure modern aerial surveillance platforms to reinforce the state’s fight against kidnapping, banditry and other forms of criminality.
