Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca has named four players who will share captaincy responsibilities at the club ahead of the new Premier League campaign.
According to a post by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano on X on Friday, Maresca has selected Ruben Dias, Erling Haaland, Marc Guehi and Gianluigi Donnarumma as the club’s captains.
The decision will see the experienced players take on greater leadership roles within the squad as City prepare for the new season.
Speaking about marquee signing Enzo Fernandez, Maresca highlighted the midfielder’s winning mentality and experience at the highest level.
“I know Enzo [Fernández] quite well, and I know what he can bring to the team. He is a winner, with a winner’s mentality, and knows how to win the World Cup and the Club World Cup,” Maresca said.
“I can promise you, in the last four or five days, four or five players were asking if he’s coming or not, because they wanted him with us!”
Maresca believes Fernandez’s experience of winning major trophies will be an important asset as Manchester City pursue their targets this season.
Reacting to Fernandez’s departure, Chelsea coach Xabi Alonso said the decision was made collectively with the club’s interests in mind.
“We take all the decisions together. We work together in every decision, big or small,” Alonso said.
“We knew, ultimately, the goal is to have the best for the team and squad. We want to build a good spirit and team.”
