The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has described President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 campaign council as a “rehabilitation centre” for individuals facing unresolved corruption allegations.
In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the opposition party questioned the return of some individuals who, it alleged, had previously faced Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) investigations or prosecution over alleged financial misconduct.
The ADC asked the government to explain the status of the cases involving those being brought back into the political fold.
“If they have been cleared, the government should show how and when and by whom they were cleared,” Abdullahi said.
The party alleged that corruption investigations under the Tinubu administration increasingly fade from public attention, only for some of those implicated to later reappear in political or government positions.
“Under this government, corruption allegations increasingly appear to have an expiry date,” the ADC said.
2027 Will Be a Referendum
The opposition party also described the 2027 election as a referendum on Tinubu’s three-year record in office.
It accused the administration of worsening poverty and the cost-of-living crisis while politically connected Nigerians allegedly enjoy what it called “obscene opulence.”
“They cannot campaign away the cost-of-living crisis or the endemic poverty that their bad policies have created,” the ADC said.
The party renewed its call for a targeted, capped, budgeted and independently audited subsidy for domestic fuel production, arguing that such a policy would help reduce pump prices and ease pressure on households.
“Our proposal is straightforward: every naira must be traceable and every barrel accounted for,” the ADC said.
The ADC also challenged President Tinubu’s administration to account for what it described as wasteful spending and misguided policies, insisting that Nigerians would judge the government’s record at the 2027 polls.
