Veteran actor Jide Kosoko has explained why his colleague, Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, cannot be moved from the hospital to receive spiritual or alternative treatments elsewhere.
In a statement shared on his Instagram page on Wednesday, Kosoko expressed gratitude to Ogogo’s family, colleagues and well-wishers for the overwhelming support and concern shown towards the actor.
He explained that Ogogo’s current medical condition makes it extremely difficult to move him from the hospital where he is receiving treatment.
“We have received offers from more than 300, and even over 500 people, each sincerely believing that they have something that could help him,” Kosoko stated.
“The challenge is simply: Where do we take him to? And how do we move him from the hospital while he is receiving care?”
Kosoko also appealed to those who have offered traditional, spiritual or specialised treatments not to feel offended if the family is unable to bring Ogogo to them.
“Please, do not feel offended or disappointed if we are unable to bring Ogogo to you for spiritual assistance or treatment. It is extremely difficult to move him from the hospital to different locations at this stage of his treatment, especially considering the large number of people who have offered to help,” he said.
He stressed that the family’s decision does not reflect a lack of appreciation or distrust of those offering assistance.
“Please understand that our inability to bring him to anyone does not mean that we do not appreciate you, nor does it mean that we doubt your intentions or your desire to help,” he added.
Kosoko said the family remains deeply touched by the support coming from people in Nigeria and around the world, urging well-wishers to continue supporting Ogogo from wherever they are.
“Keep praying. Keep supporting us. Keep believing with us,” he appealed.
The statement comes amid growing concern over Ogogo’s health after his daughters, Shakira and Haleemah Hassan, shared an emotional video revealing that their father is battling cancer.
Their initial appeal over difficulties in securing adequate specialised care triggered an outpouring of support from the entertainment industry and the public, with Nollywood actors including Femi Adebayo and Toyin Abraham mobilising support.
A medical doctor has also explained that care for patients with stage-four cancer largely focuses on palliative management aimed at relieving pain and preserving quality of life. The doctor cautioned well-wishers against recommending unverified herbal remedies that could potentially worsen the actor’s condition.
Kosoko’s latest update confirms that Ogogo remains under direct hospital care, while appealing to the public to continue offering their support through prayers and other appropriate means.
