Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have neutralised several terrorists and recovered weapons, ammunition and communication gadgets following an attack on their position in Gajiram, Nganzai Local Government Area of Borno State.
The Acting Military Information Officer of Operation Hadin Kai, Mohammed Goni, disclosed this in a statement on Monday.
Goni said the attack occurred at about 12:20 a.m. on August 10, 2026, when a large number of terrorists launched an assault in an attempt to overrun the troops’ position.
According to him, the troops responded with sustained fire, forcing the attackers to retreat after suffering heavy casualties.
“The gallant troops responded with determined and effective fire, forcing the attackers to withdraw after sustaining heavy casualties. During the engagement, troops neutralised several of the terrorists and recovered weapons, ammunition and communication gadgets,” he said.
Goni added that a post-engagement review of surveillance footage confirmed that the retreating terrorists evacuated several casualties from the scene.
He said the recovered items and surveillance footage were undergoing further operational assessment.
However, Goni disclosed that a few soldiers sustained injuries after part of the troops’ defences was temporarily breached during the attack.
He said some combat support equipment and vehicles were also damaged by rocket-propelled grenade fire.
According to him, the injured personnel were promptly airlifted and are currently stable while receiving medical treatment.
Following the attack, Goni said troops remained firmly deployed in and around the Forward Operating Base and adjoining areas to dominate the area, monitor developments and prevent further attempts by the terrorists to launch another attack.
He urged residents of Gajiram and neighbouring communities to remain calm and continue with their lawful activities.
“Troops continue to maintain high vigilance in and around Gajiram while exploitation of the operational area and further assessment of terrorists’ casualties and activities remain ongoing,” he said.
The military also reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining pressure on ISWAP terrorists until lasting peace and stability are restored in the North-East.
“Headquarters Theatre Command Operation HADIN KAI reassures the public of its unshakeable commitment to sustaining pressure on the ISWAP terrorists until lasting peace and stability are fully restored in the North East,” the statement added.
