President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of 26 individuals to 10 federal government agencies and commissions, including the appointment of former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose as Chairman of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) and retired Major General Junaid Bindawa as Chairman of the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission.
The appointments were announced on Monday in a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
Fayose will head the REA board, alongside Alhaji Ahmadu Abubakar and Engineer Ilyasu Ibrahim Makinta, who were appointed as members and non-executive directors. The agency’s Director-General, Abba Abubakar Aliyu, and three previously appointed executive directors will complete the board.
For the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission, President Tinubu appointed eight additional members alongside Major General Bindawa. Former Lagos member of the House of Representatives, Olajumoke Okoya-Thomas, was named secretary of the commission.
Other appointees to the commission include Dr Ogbole Ene Lilian, Oladele Olatubosun, and Yakubu Umar Barde, representing Benue, Oyo, and Kaduna states respectively. Dr Mai Adamu Yau of Borno, Ginika Florence Tor of Enugu, Engineer Lawrence Okoh of Edo, and Bello Morenike Iyabode of Kogi were also appointed as members.
Tosin Johnson Adeyanju, who had earlier been named Executive Secretary of the National Lottery Trust Fund, has been reassigned as Secretary of the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission.
Other appointments include Dr Abuh Mohammed as Director-General of the National Population Commission, Dr Akinola Odeyemi as Managing Director of the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Company, and Dr Anthony Inalegwu Godwin as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria Atomic Energy Commission.
Engineer Julius Oloro, a former local government chairman, was appointed Chief Executive Officer of the National Centre for Agricultural Mechanisation in Kwara State, replacing Dr A.R. Kamal, who died in January.
The President also constituted the board of the Fiscal Responsibility Commission, appointing Dr Abdullahi Maikano Saidu as chairman. Members of the board include Mohammed Asmau, Mohammed Aliyu Makama, Dr Suleiman Gidado, Louis O. Ndukwe, Amaechi Ugwele, and Olaniyi Idowu Onikola.
Shuni Muhammad Dahiru was appointed Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Mass Literacy, Adult and Non-Formal Education, replacing Professor Shu’aibu Shehu Aliyu, who was reassigned to the Petroleum Trust Development Fund in April.
Following the resignation of Mathias Byuan, former Executive Director of Finance at the Federal Housing Authority, President Tinubu appointed Gisaor Vincent Iorja as his replacement. Iorja, an economist, legal scholar, and academic, currently serves as Secretary of the Benue State Independent Electoral Commission.
The statement noted that all appointments take immediate effect.
