French football icon Zinedine Zidane has reportedly agreed to become the next head coach of the France national team on a contract running until June 2030.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano disclosed the development in a post on Facebook on Tuesday, claiming the former Real Madrid manager will be officially unveiled in the coming days.
“Zinedine Zidane has signed as the new France coach until June 2030. The story has been confirmed as Zizou will be unveiled as the new head coach in the next days — back to work with France,” Romano wrote.
He added that Zidane is expected to lead Les Bleus through the 2027 UEFA Nations League, UEFA Euro 2028 and the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
Romano concluded the announcement with his signature phrase: “Here we go, confirmed.”
Zidane, 54, has been out of management since leaving Real Madrid in 2021 after his second spell in charge of the Spanish club.
During his time at the Santiago Bernabéu, the Frenchman guided Madrid to three consecutive UEFA Champions League titles between 2016 and 2018, while also winning two La Liga titles and several other domestic and international honours.
The 1998 FIFA World Cup winner has long been regarded as the leading candidate to succeed Didier Deschamps, who has managed the French national team since 2012 and is expected to step down after the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Zidane has previously expressed his desire to coach the French national team, fuelling years of speculation over a potential appointment.
However, as of the time of filing this report, the French Football Federation had not issued an official statement confirming Zidane’s appointment.
