Justice Obiora Egwuatu of the Federal High Court in Abuja has rejected an application by the detained self-styled Director-General of the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC), Adeniyi Adeyemi, seeking bail and access to medical attention.
In a ruling on Adeyemi’s ex-parte application, Justice Egwuatu instead ordered the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) and the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) to allow him access to his lawyers.
The judge also directed the IGP, the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and the AGF to show cause within 72 hours why the other reliefs sought by Adeyemi, including his request for bail, should not be granted.
Justice Egwuatu subsequently adjourned the case until September 9 for the respondents—the IGP, NPF and AGF—to show cause.
Earlier, following an application filed by the police on July 14, a Federal High Court in Abuja, presided over by Justice Mohammed Umar, issued a bench warrant for Adeyemi’s arrest.
The police later announced on the same day that they had arrested the alleged “fake DG” at a hideout in Osun State.
Since November 27, 2025, the police have filed an eight-count charge against Adeyemi, accusing him of forgery, fraud and impersonation.
The latest development adds to the controversy surrounding the disputed PFIPC, which the Presidency has described as a fictitious government agency.
