The House of Representatives Ad-Hoc Committee investigating the activities of the alleged Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC) has declared the appointment letter presented by the council’s self-acclaimed Director-General, Adeniyi Adeyemi, to be fake.
The committee’s chairman, Yusuf Gagdi, made the disclosure on Wednesday during the continuation of the investigative hearing in Abuja.
According to Gagdi, the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Didi Esther Walson-Jack, who appeared before the panel for the second time, confirmed that the documents submitted by Adeyemi were not authentic.
“It was established that the so-called letter of appointment was fake, as confirmed by different agencies. The Act presented to the Head of Service was also fake and forged by the DG. That has been established,” Gagdi said.
Walson-Jack appeared before the committee in compliance with its summons to make her final submissions on the matter.
Also present at the hearing were Deputy Commissioner of Police Olufemi Akinola and Assistant Commissioner of Police Bashir Abdullahi, representing the Inspector-General of Police.
Adeyemi was absent from the hearing.
The committee had earlier directed the Inspector-General of Police to produce Adeyemi within 48 hours after describing the establishment and operations of the purported council as a serious breach of due process.
Lawmakers said his appearance is necessary to explain how the alleged council secured official recognition and processed government correspondence despite claims that it lacks legal backing.
