The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) says it is reviewing the results of Saturday’s governorship election across the state’s 332 wards before deciding on its next course of action.
The party said the review was aimed at assessing the outcome of the election and determining whether to pursue available legal options under the Electoral Act 2026, as amended.
In a statement signed on Sunday by the APC Director of Media and Information in Osun State, Kola Olabisi, the party maintained that an election process does not end with the announcement of results, noting that the law provides avenues for seeking redress through the courts.
“We are not unaware of the fact that election is a process which begins at the registration of voters through the primary election to the election proper, which extends to the tribunal, the Appeal Court and terminates at the Supreme Court,” the party said.
“An election cannot be said to have been concluded without having explored all these constitutionally allowed legal opportunities to enrich the nation’s jurisprudence as enshrined in the Electoral Act 2026, as amended.”
The APC commended its members and supporters for their steadfastness, loyalty and resilience throughout the electoral process.
The party said, as a progressive political organisation committed to the principles of the rule of law, fairness and justice, it would consider all options permitted by law after consultations with its legal team.
“As a result of the foregoing, we are imploring our ever loyal members and supporters to remain calm while they carry on with their businesses and refuse to respond to any provocative action or inaction from any of the members of the ruling party across the state,” the statement added.
The party urged its supporters to remain patient and steadfast, insisting that the political process was not yet over.
It also called on the Nigeria Police Force to intervene over what it described as the alleged molestation of some of its members and supporters by opposition supporters.
The APC described the current political situation in Osun as a temporary phase that would eventually become part of the state’s history.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Governor Ademola Adeleke the winner of Saturday’s governorship election in the early hours of Sunday.
The Returning Officer, Joshua Ogunwole, announced in Osogbo that Adeleke secured 511,067 votes to defeat his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the APC, who polled 444,815 votes.
Najeem Salaam of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) finished third with 17,180 votes.
A total of 1,005,800 votes were cast across the 30 local government areas of Osun State, while 985,079 votes were declared valid. INEC said 1,010,684 voters were accredited for the election, which featured candidates from 15 political parties.
President Bola Tinubu congratulated Adeleke on his victory, describing the election as a “fitting assurance” that democracy would continue to flourish in Nigeria.
Several state governors have also congratulated the Osun governor on his re-election.
