The Ekiti State Police Command has confirmed the rescue of worshippers who were abducted during an attack on Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) in Eda-Oniyo community, Ilejemeje Local Government Area of the state, on April 28, 2026.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Sunday Abutu.
According to the police, one of the kidnapped victims died while in captivity before the rescue operation.
The statement noted that the victims were rescued following sustained intelligence-led operations and coordinated efforts involving the Nigeria Police Force, the military, other security agencies, the Amotekun Corps, local hunters, and the Ekiti State Government.
It added that the rescued victims have been taken to a hospital for medical examination and treatment to assess their condition and ensure they receive appropriate medical care.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Falade Adegoroye Micheal, commended the dedication, professionalism, and collaboration among all security stakeholders, describing their joint efforts as instrumental to the successful rescue operation.
He also praised the Ekiti State Government, under the leadership of Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, for its unwavering support to security agencies, which he said contributed significantly to the success of the operation. The commissioner further appreciated residents of the state for their vigilance, cooperation, and timely provision of credible information.
While assuring the public that efforts have been intensified to track down and arrest those responsible for the abduction, the commissioner reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.
