The All Progressives Congress (APC) has petitioned the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), calling for an investigation and possible prosecution of Abayomi Hunye over allegations that he is impersonating the party’s governorship candidate for the 2027 Ogun State election.
The petition was signed by the APC Director of Administration, Ayoola Olajolo, and made available to journalists on Tuesday in Abuja.
Olajolo described Hunye as an impostor whose alleged activities violated the law and posed a threat to public peace and the integrity of the electoral process.
He urged the police to investigate the allegations and prosecute Hunye for impersonation and any other offences established in the course of the investigation.
“I write to bring to your urgent attention a grave threat to public peace and electoral integrity involving one Mr Abayomi Hunye,” Olajolo said.
According to him, Hunye had allegedly used print and social media platforms to present himself as the APC’s candidate for the 2027 Ogun governorship election.
“The subject has notoriously and unlawfully taken to the public domain, including print and social media, parading himself as the governorship candidate,” he alleged.
Olajolo described the claim as “false, fraudulent, and a deliberate act of impersonation,” warning that it could mislead members of the public and create tension in the state.
He further disclosed that Hunye was suspended from the APC on April 7, 2026, following a petition submitted by his ward in Ipokia Local Government Area.
The suspension, he said, was ratified by the Ogun State Working Committee and subsequently communicated to the party’s national headquarters.
According to Olajolo, the suspension followed allegations of anti-party activities and actions allegedly intended to create disaffection among party members.
He said the APC had conducted a valid governorship primary election and recognised Senator Adeola Olamilekan and Balogun Kudirat Abiodun as its candidates for the election.
“Our party conducted a valid primary election, and the only recognised governorship candidates for the APC in Ogun are Sen. Adeola Olamilekan and Balogun Kudirat Abiodun,” he said.
Olajolo identified Olamilekan as the governorship candidate and Kudirat as the deputy governorship candidate recognised by the party.
He called on the IGP to direct the Nigeria Police Force to invite Hunye for questioning over the allegations.
“He should be prosecuted after investigation for impersonation, conduct likely to cause a breach of peace, and violation of the Electoral Act, 2026,” he said.
The APC official also urged the police to prevent Hunye from further presenting himself as the party’s governorship candidate, arguing that such action would help avert a potential breakdown of law and order in Ogun State.
Olajolo assured the police of the cooperation of both the APC national secretariat and its Ogun State chapter, adding that the party was ready to provide additional witness statements and other relevant information needed to support the investigation.
