The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast cloudy weather and thunderstorms across several parts of Nigeria on Monday, August 24, 2026.
According to the agency’s daily weather outlook, patches of cloud are expected across the northern states throughout the morning, with thunderstorms accompanied by moderate rainfall likely in the afternoon and evening.
In the North-Central region, NiMet forecast cloudy conditions in the morning, followed by isolated thunderstorms and moderate rainfall across most parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Nasarawa, Benue, Kogi, Niger and Plateau states later in the day.
For the southern states, cloudy skies are expected in the morning, with chances of light rainfall over parts of Ebonyi, Enugu, Cross River and Akwa Ibom states.
NiMet also predicted intermittent moderate rainfall across most parts of the southern region during the afternoon and evening.
The agency advised residents to exercise caution during thunderstorms, warning that strong winds could occur ahead of the storms.
“Residents in flood-prone and low-lying areas should remain alert,” NiMet said. “Avoid driving or walking through flooded roads. Disconnect electrical appliances during thunderstorms where necessary.”
The agency also advised airline operators to obtain airport-specific weather briefings from NiMet to support safe flight planning and operations.
