Nigerian content creator Adebayo Ridwan Abidemi, popularly known as Isbae U, has revealed how he came up with his popular interview series, Curiosity Made Me Ask, saying he wanted to create something different from skit-making.
Isbae U made this known during an interview with media personality Morayo Afolabi-Brown on The Morayo Show, published on YouTube on Wednesday.
He said he explored different forms of entertainment, including acting, singing and rapping, while trying to find his niche.
According to him, he eventually decided he did not want to remain “part of the skit makers” and began searching for a concept that would distinguish him from others.
“I was just finding myself. I was at that process. Before that, I was singing, before that rapping. I was just finding myself,” he said.
Isbae U said the idea for Curiosity Made Me Ask emerged after he decided he wanted to move beyond what he described as being “mediocre” or “average.”
“There was a day I said to someone that I was done being mediocre, being average. I wanted to do something different. I didn’t want to just be considered part of them, part of the skit makers, one of them,” he said.
He has since used the format to interview prominent personalities, including former President Olusegun Obasanjo, actor Pete Edochie and entertainer Charly Boy.
Explaining the concept behind the show, Isbae U said the interviews are designed to reveal lesser-known sides of public figures rather than focus solely on conventional questions.
“The idea of Curiosity Made Me Ask is to show you another part of this celebrity you’ve not seen,” he said.
He admitted that he often gets nervous before interviewing older and more established personalities but said many of them have welcomed him and encouraged him to be himself.
“Every time. Especially when it comes to people that are way older than me,” he said when asked whether he gets nervous before such interviews.
His recent interview with Obasanjo attracted significant attention online, with the former President becoming one of the latest high-profile guests on the show.
Isbae U also disclosed that he continues to work on other creative projects behind the scenes, despite his focus on Curiosity Made Me Ask.
“A lot of people thought or think I have stopped creating and just doing Curiosity Made Me Ask. But low-key, there are people I write stories for, people I help with their stories,” he said.
He added that he plans to explore more forms of content in the future.
