The Federal Government will commence repair works on the damaged expansion joints at the Kara Bridge section of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Tuesday, September 8, 2026.
The Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, disclosed this in a statement, noting that the development is in line with an earlier announcement by the Federal Ministry of Works.
The rehabilitation, which was initially scheduled to begin in August, was suspended to allow for a review of the traffic management plan following public concerns over the short notice and potential impact on traffic.
The two-week project, directed by the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, involves replacing deteriorating expansion joints on the busy corridor to improve road safety, restore structural integrity and enhance traffic flow.
The repair works are expected to run from September 8 to September 22, 2026.
The Lagos State Government has urged motorists using the corridor to plan their journeys ahead and allow extra travel time during the rehabilitation period.
To minimise disruption, authorities said one half of the affected section of the bridge will be closed at a time, while traffic will be managed interchangeably on the remaining open half.
The government appealed to motorists to remain patient and cooperate with traffic managers to ensure the rehabilitation is completed within the scheduled two-week period.
