President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday approved the establishment of a committee to draft a five-year strategic defence cooperation plan for Nigeria.
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, disclosed this while briefing State House correspondents after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting chaired by Tinubu at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Idris said the committee would comprise the National Security Adviser, the two Ministers of Defence, the Chief of Defence Staff, all service chiefs, the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), and the Special Adviser to the President on Homeland Security, who will serve as the committee’s secretariat.
“The council today also approved the establishment of a drafting committee for a five-year strategic defence cooperation plan,” Idris said.
He explained that the committee had been given 90 days to complete its assignment and submit the report to the President.
“They have 90 days from today to submit their report to Mr President,” the minister said.
