Security operatives have arrested the self-acclaimed Director-General of the purported Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC), Adeniyi Adeyemi, following a bench warrant issued by the Federal High Court in Abuja.
Adeyemi was apprehended on Tuesday at his hideout in Osun State, shortly after Justice Mohammed Umar ordered his arrest for failing to appear in court for his arraignment.
Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer said Adeyemi was arrested by a team from the Force Intelligence Department/Intelligence Response Team (FID/IRT) in Osun State, adding that further details would be provided later.
Although details of the operation remain sketchy, sources said the suspect would be transported to the Force Headquarters in Abuja for further action.
The arrest followed a ruling by Justice Umar, who issued a bench warrant after Adeyemi repeatedly failed to appear in court despite several adjournments.
During the hearing, Adeyemi’s lawyer, Genesis Francis, told the court he had been unable to persuade his client to attend, explaining that the defendant feared for his safety.
According to the defence counsel, Adeyemi had expressed those concerns in an open letter addressed to President Bola Tinubu, citing the widespread public attention surrounding the case.
Prosecuting counsel, Wisdom Madaki, argued that the trial had been repeatedly stalled by the defendant’s absence and urged the court to issue a warrant for his arrest in accordance with Section 394 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act.
In granting the application, Justice Umar noted that the charges were filed on November 27, 2025, and that proceedings began on December 4, 2025. He observed that Adeyemi had appeared in court only once and had consistently failed to attend subsequent sittings.
The case was adjourned until September 30 after the court ordered his arrest.
