New Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso has reportedly told five senior players they are free to leave the club as he begins reshaping his squad ahead of the new season.
According to Portuguese newspaper A Bola, goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen, defenders Axel Disasi and Benoit Badiashile, winger Alejandro Garnacho and striker Liam Delap have been informed they can seek moves away from Stamford Bridge during the summer transfer window.
The report estimates the combined market value of the five players at around £160 million.
Alonso, who was appointed Chelsea manager this summer, also appeared to confirm uncertainty over Garnacho’s future, revealing that another club has expressed interest in the Argentine winger.
“We have spoken to the sporting director and there’s interest from another club, so let’s see how it develops,” Alonso said during his first press conference.
“I hope it finishes in the best possible way for all parties.”
Garnacho joined Chelsea from Manchester United last summer but endured a challenging first season, registering eight goals and four assists in 43 appearances.
Delap also struggled to make a significant impact following his move from Ipswich Town, recording two goals and four assists in 41 matches.
Badiashile featured sparingly throughout the campaign, while Disasi fell out of favour before spending the second half of the season on loan. Jorgensen also saw limited game time, making just 12 appearances.
Chelsea have already bolstered Alonso’s squad with the signings of Geovany Quenda, Emmanuel Emegha and Marco Palestra ahead of the new campaign. Players who featured at the FIFA World Cup are expected to return to pre-season training in the coming days.
