The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed that it has launched an internal investigation into the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 2 Command, AIG Moshood Jimoh, following corruption allegations made by social media personality Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan.
The Force said AIG Jimoh has been invited for questioning as part of its administrative review process, while the criminal case linked to the allegations is already before a court of competent jurisdiction. It also disclosed that Otse has been invited to provide evidence in support of his claims.
The development was announced in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu.
According to the statement, the criminal matter referenced by Otse was investigated and subsequently charged to court following legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
“The criminal matter referenced in public commentary was investigated and is now before a court of competent jurisdiction, following the advice of the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP). As the matter is sub judice, its adjudication rests solely with the judiciary,” the statement said.
The Police emphasised that it would not allow public commentary or social media campaigns to influence ongoing judicial proceedings.
“The Force will not try this case in the media, nor will it allow its outcome to be shaped by public campaigns or commentary seeking to prejudge the officers or parties involved,” it stated.
The Force, however, clarified that its internal disciplinary process is separate from the court proceedings, confirming that the Assistant Inspector-General in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) has invited AIG Jimoh for questioning over the allegations.
It further disclosed that the Force Criminal Investigation Department, Abuja, on July 30, 2026, issued a formal invitation to VeryDarkMan, requesting his appearance to substantiate the allegations he made publicly.
“The Force Criminal Investigation Department, Abuja, on July 30, 2026, formally issued a letter of invitation to Mr. Martins Otse (VeryDarkMan), inviting him to appear at its Abuja office to substantiate the claims he has made in the public domain,” the statement added.
The Police said the actions demonstrate its commitment to investigating credible allegations of misconduct through established accountability mechanisms, irrespective of the rank of the officer involved or the public profile of the complainant.
It noted that such mechanisms include the Force Criminal Investigation Department, the Force Complaint Response Unit and, where necessary, the Office of the Inspector-General of Police.
