The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has expressed confidence in its ability to defeat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general election if the poll is free and fair, while declaring that it is prepared for any eventuality.
ADC National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, stated this during an interview on the Naija Unfiltered Podcast while responding to questions about the opposition party’s chances of unseating the incumbent administration amid the growing number of opposition groups.
Abdullahi said the party was confident of victory under a credible electoral process but raised concerns about the possibility of manipulation.
“Yes, we believe so. In a free and fair election, we have no doubt in my mind that we win this election,” he said.
According to him, the ADC is also preparing to protect its votes at every stage of the electoral process, alleging that the APC could attempt to manipulate the outcome of the 2027 election.
“The challenge is: Will there be a fair and fair election? We are ready for that. We are ready for anything,” Abdullahi said.
He added: “If you are dealing with these APC people, you have to be ready for anything quickly because we know that they want to steal the election. We will police our vote.”
ADC Questions Wike’s Osun Comment
Abdullahi also referenced a recent comment attributed to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, concerning the outcome of the Osun State governorship election.
The ADC spokesman said Wike’s reported suggestion that he would have delivered Osun State for the APC if he had been in the state raised concerns about the ruling party’s alleged intention to influence electoral outcomes.
“What does that mean? That regardless of what the Osun people think, you have a way to deliver it. That’s confession,” he said.
Abdullahi further alleged that the APC had resorted to threats because it had lost public support.
“We know Nigerians have abandoned them. They know Nigerians have abandoned them, and that’s why they are threatening everybody,” he said.
He said the ADC was consequently preparing extensively for the 2027 election, with particular emphasis on ensuring that its supporters and votes were protected throughout the electoral process.
The party’s position underscores its broader concern that the credibility of the 2027 election will be as important as the strength of the opposition’s campaign in determining the outcome.
