Ahead of the 2027 general elections, presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has urged politicians to avoid making unrealistic campaign promises that they may be unable to fulfil if elected.
Obi made the call during a town hall meeting with NDC members and supporters in Kaduna State, where he advocated for issue-based and demand-driven campaigns ahead of the election.
The former Anambra State governor urged political parties to focus on the challenges confronting Nigerians and engage directly with citizens to better understand their needs and priorities.
Speaking on his vision for the country, Obi said that if elected president, he would spend his annual holidays in Nigeria rather than abroad.
According to him, the President should remain connected to the people and use such periods to visit different parts of the country, particularly communities affected by insecurity and other challenges.
The NDC vice-presidential candidate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, also addressed the gathering and encouraged Nigerians to actively participate in the electoral process.
Party members and supporters used the town hall meeting to engage directly with the presidential candidate and raise issues relating to the country’s political and socio-economic development.
The Kaduna engagement is part of the NDC’s grassroots mobilisation efforts ahead of the 2027 general elections and its campaign to communicate its political agenda to voters.
