The Presidency has confirmed that the pupils and teachers rescued from the Oriire community in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, are undergoing medical examinations before being handed over to Governor Seyi Makinde.

Speaking on Saturday, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said the Office of the National Security Adviser (NSA) informed the Presidency that the rescued victims would be transferred to the Oyo State Government after their medical assessments.

“The children are still undergoing medical examination. They will thereafter be handed over to Oyo Governor Makinde,” Onanuga said.

Earlier, President Bola Tinubu expressed delight over the successful rescue operation, commending the military, the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Nigeria Police Force for their coordinated efforts in securing the release of the abducted pupils and teachers after 56 days in captivity.

The President praised the security agencies for carrying out the operation without collateral damage, noting that eight suspected abductors were arrested while others were neutralised during the mission.

Tinubu also acknowledged the trauma endured by the victims, their families, and the nation throughout the ordeal.

He commended the Oyo State Government for its collaboration with the Federal Government during the rescue operation and urged the state to strengthen security around schools.

“I am profoundly happy that our security forces successfully rescued the abducted pupils and teachers from Oriire, Ogbomoso, Oyo State, after a military, police, and intelligence-led operation that neutralised some of the terrorists responsible for the attack and led to the arrest of eight suspects.

“This successful operation has ended more than 50 days of uncertainty and brought relief to the nation, especially the affected families. On behalf of the country, I express my gratitude to the officers and personnel of our armed forces, intelligence agencies, and the police for ensuring the safe rescue of the children and their teachers.

“My administration will ensure justice for these children, their teachers, and the family of Mr. Oyedokun, who was brutally murdered by the terrorists.

“I also commend the Oyo State Government for its cooperation with the Federal Government in bringing this unfortunate incident to a successful conclusion,” the President said.
