Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, on Sunday visited victims of the recent kidnapping in Eda-Oniyo, Ilejemeje Local Government Area, who are receiving treatment at the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH), Ado-Ekiti.
During the visit, the governor expressed gratitude over their safe release and announced that the state government would fully fund their medical treatment, rehabilitation and psychological care to support their recovery and reintegration into society.
Oyebanji thanked God for the victims’ safe return and appreciated President Bola Tinubu, security agencies, community groups and other Ekiti indigenes for their contributions to securing the victims’ release.
He commended the security agencies for their professionalism throughout the rescue operation and also praised the Eda-Oniyo Progressives Association, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and other well-meaning Ekiti indigenes for their support.
The governor urged residents not to politicise security challenges, stressing that safeguarding lives and property requires collective responsibility and unity.
He said the government had directed that all medical expenses for the victims be covered by the state and disclosed that psychologists would be engaged to provide emotional and mental health support.
Oyebanji expressed satisfaction with the victims’ condition, noting that they were responding well to treatment, including a child who had regained consciousness.
He also applauded the management and staff of EKSUTH, security agencies and members of the Hunters’ Association for their roles in the rescue operation, assuring residents that his administration would continue to strengthen security efforts across the state.
