The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress for the 2027 Ogun State election and senator representing Ogun West, Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, on Friday visited former President Olusegun Obasanjo and former Ogun State Governor Ibikunle Amosun in Abeokuta, seeking their support and guidance ahead of the election.
Speaking after meeting Obasanjo at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, Adeola said the former President offered valuable advice on governance and the future of Ogun State, adding that his recommendations would be reflected in his administration’s plans if elected governor.
“I came to pay homage to our father, the father of the nation, a former President and a respected national leader. We received a very warm reception,” Adeola told journalists.
“We came to seek his support, blessings and guidance, and he graciously gave us all three.
“He spoke passionately about the future of Ogun State, his expectations and what he believes must be done to keep the state on the right track.
“We have listened carefully, taken his advice to heart and will incorporate it into our plans and programmes as we move toward 2027. It has been a very successful visit, and I sincerely thank the former President for the warm reception he extended to me and my deputy.”
Responding, Obasanjo urged the APC candidate to remain focused on his ambition while seeking divine direction.
“My prayer is that your desires and ambitions will align with what God has planned for you,” he said.
The former President recalled how his initial ambition to study geology and build a career in the oil and gas industry gave way to military service, which he described as God’s purpose for his life.
“I wanted to study geology and become a great geologist, but that was not God’s plan for me. God’s plan was for me to make progress through the military, and He helped me every step of the way.
“I pray that God’s purpose for your life will also be fulfilled. Be focused on what you want to do and what you want to achieve. If anyone has a goal or aspiration, let them pursue it with determination and leave the rest to God and to our people,” Obasanjo added.
Adeola later met with Amosun, whom he described as his political leader, saying the visit formed part of ongoing consultations within the APC ahead of the 2027 governorship poll.
“I am here to call on my leader and seek his understanding and support, which he has graciously granted.
“I will return for another scheduled visit when he will be ready to address the press. Today’s meeting has been wonderful. Everyone is happy, the turnout was impressive and we are all speaking with one voice. It is victory for our party in 2027,” he said.
In his remarks, Amosun called for unity within the APC, stressing that members should work together in the interest of the party and the state.
“What people are looking for is good governance. We are one family, and there is no need to form separate groups,” he said.
The former governor also thanked party members and supporters who accompanied Adeola on the visit, urging them to remain united.
“It is a great joy that you have all come. We appreciate your presence and ask for your continued support and cooperation.
“This visit is not about seeking support because the support is already there. We are ready to move forward. When the time comes, we will put everything together, review it carefully and proceed accordingly,” Amosun added.
The visits are part of Adeola’s ongoing consultations with influential political leaders and stakeholders across Ogun State as preparations intensify for the 2027 governorship election.
