President Bola Tinubu has said the ongoing road infrastructure projects across the satellite towns of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) are aimed at stimulating economic activities and improving the quality of life for residents.
The President, represented by Vice-President Kashim Shettima, made the statement on Monday in Abuja during the inauguration of the newly rehabilitated and expanded Karu Township roads.
Tinubu said the projects reflect his administration’s commitment to delivering development to communities where Nigerians live, work, and commute daily.
Describing the road project as a key achievement of the Renewed Hope Agenda, the President said the Karu Township roads demonstrate his government’s resolve to tackle urban congestion while enhancing the living conditions of FCT residents.
“When we assumed office three years ago, we recognised that meaningful development must reach the communities where people live, work, and commute. For years, the Karu corridor, a major gateway linking the FCT with neighbouring states, was plagued by severe traffic congestion that reduced productivity and wasted valuable time. By expanding and rehabilitating these roads, we are doing more than constructing infrastructure—we are revitalising the local economy,” he said.
Tinubu noted that the completed project has significantly reduced travel time, eased persistent traffic gridlocks, and created a more conducive environment for businesses in the densely populated area to flourish.
He also praised the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for driving the rapid transformation of Abuja’s infrastructure.
“The remarkable physical transformation taking place across Abuja is a testament to the dedication, commitment, and focused leadership of Minister Nyesom Wike. His vigorous implementation of our urban renewal agenda is evident for all to see. I commend him and his team for prioritising strategic road projects in high-density satellite communities like Karu alongside developments in the city centre.
This reflects our belief that the resources of the FCT must translate into tangible benefits and improved living standards for people across all social and economic backgrounds,” the President said.
In his remarks, Wike said the road project had transformed the landscape of Karu and urged residents to appreciate the government’s efforts to improve infrastructure and enhance their daily lives.
