Jamal Musiala marked his return to Bayern Munich’s starting line-up with a goal, while Michael Olise scored twice as the German champions cruised to a 5-0 victory over Bodo-Glimt in the Champions League on Thursday.
Harry Kane and Alphonso Davies were also on target as Bayern extended their impressive record of winning their opening Champions League match for the 24th consecutive time, a run stretching back to 2002.
However, the biggest moment of the night belonged to Musiala, who received a warm embrace from his teammates after scoring on his return to the starting XI.
The Germany international had missed two matches after revealing that he was dealing with a neurological condition that had caused him to collapse during two of Bayern’s pre-season friendlies.
Bodo-Glimt, who surprised many by reaching the Champions League last 16 last season, frustrated Bayern for much of the first half with a disciplined defensive approach.
The Norwegian side eventually ran out of steam after the break and were reduced to 10 men when Odin Bjortuft was shown a straight red card for a last-man foul three minutes from full time.
Bayern coach Vincent Kompany made three changes to the team that started Saturday’s goalless draw at Schalke, bringing Musiala, Kane and Olise into the line-up.
Despite dominating possession, Bayern struggled to break down Bodo’s deep defensive block during the opening 45 minutes.
The breakthrough came early in the second half when Musiala reacted quickest to a blocked Kane effort before firing into the far corner.
Kane doubled Bayern’s advantage shortly after the hour mark, heading in a free-kick from Olise to extend his remarkable Champions League scoring streak to eight consecutive matches.
Bayern then took complete control in the closing stages, scoring three times in the final 15 minutes.
Davies made it 3-0 with a superb long-range strike with 13 minutes remaining before Olise produced another moment of quality six minutes later, curling a spectacular effort into the top-left corner from around 25 yards.
The France international completed his brace in stoppage time with another fine finish, putting the finishing touch on a dominant second-half display from the Bavarian giants.
