The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has projected that Nigeria’s registered voter population will surpass 100 million ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The Commission also announced plans to intensify nationwide voter education and public communication efforts to promote effective voter mobilisation and strengthen confidence in the electoral process.
INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of its Information and Voter Education Committee (IVEC), Mohammed Haruna, disclosed this on Tuesday in Abuja during a joint implementation meeting of the Departments of Voter Education and Publicity and Gender and Inclusivity.
Haruna said the projected increase from the current 93 million registered voters would make Nigeria’s electorate the largest in Africa, highlighting the need for stronger voter education and communication strategies ahead of the elections.
The meeting, attended by heads of voter education from the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), focused on developing a coordinated communication and inclusivity roadmap for the 2027 elections.
According to the Commission, the roadmap will prioritise voter mobilisation, public confidence in the electoral process and equal access to participation for all eligible citizens.
