Former Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Osita Chidoka, has recalled how former President Goodluck Jonathan acknowledged his defeat in the 2015 presidential election.
Chidoka shared the account in an interview with Channels Television on Tuesday on the sidelines of the National Peace Accord signing ceremony in Abuja.
According to Chidoka, Jonathan privately informed him that the election had been lost even before the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced the final results from the remaining states.
He said he asked Jonathan what the next step would be, to which the former president responded that he would accept the outcome and instructed him to prepare a concession speech.
Chidoka explained that before INEC completed the official announcement of the final results, Jonathan called Muhammadu Buhari to concede defeat in the 2015 presidential election.
Jonathan, who contested under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), lost the election to Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The defeat made Jonathan the first incumbent Nigerian president to lose a democratic election and marked a significant moment in the country’s political history.
