Two daughters of veteran Yoruba actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, have appealed for urgent medical assistance, saying hospitals have reportedly refused to continue treating their father, whom they disclosed is battling stage-four cancer.
Lima and Kira Taiwo made separate emotional appeals on Instagram on Monday, calling on Nigerians, well-wishers and medical professionals experienced in cancer treatment to help save the 66-year-old actor.
In a video shared on Instagram, Lima said her father’s condition had deteriorated significantly and that hospitals were unwilling to continue his treatment.
Struggling to hold back tears, she appealed to anyone who could connect the family with a hospital or medical professional willing to take on the actor’s case.
She stressed that the family was not seeking financial assistance but medical intervention.
According to Lima, the family only became aware of the seriousness of Hassan’s condition about three weeks ago, noting that his outward appearance had initially given little indication of the severity of his illness.
She also expressed appreciation to a relative who had supported the family during the difficult period.
Lima ended her appeal with a tearful plea for help, saying she could not bear to watch her father die.
In a separate video, Kira confirmed that her father’s cancer had reached stage four and said a hospital had informed the family that it could no longer administer chemotherapy.
She appealed to anyone capable of providing cancer treatment, including chemotherapy, to contact the family.
Kira also expressed appreciation to Senator Yayi, whom she said had been supporting the family and covering medical expenses.
Like her sister, Kira emphasised that the family was not asking for money but for someone who could provide or facilitate medical treatment for their father.
She urged medical professionals, hospitals and anyone with access to cancer treatment to contact her, Lima or the actor directly.
Speaking emotionally about her father’s condition, Kira said she had never seen him experience such severe pain and disclosed that he had expressed fears about dying.
Hassan, 66, is a veteran of the Nigerian film industry whose career spans more than four decades. He has appeared in more than 300 films and remains one of the most recognisable figures in Yoruba cinema.
As of the time of filing this report, the actor’s management and family had not issued an official statement providing further details about his diagnosis, the specific type of cancer or the hospital where he is receiving treatment.
