Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has alleged that soldiers are attempting to prevent him from entering Osun State as the state holds its governorship election on Saturday.
In a post on his verified X account early on Saturday, the singer said he had been informed that soldiers were trying to stop him from entering the state.
“I’ve been reliably informed that soldiers are trying to prevent me from entering Osun tomorrow. This won’t happen. Every citizen of Nigeria has the right to movement at any point in time,” he wrote.
Davido’s claim came hours after the Nigeria Police Force announced a restriction of movement across Osun State from midnight on Friday, August 14, until 6 p.m. on Saturday, August 15, as part of security measures for the governorship election.
The restriction is among several measures put in place for the poll, including the deployment of thousands of police officers and personnel from other security agencies across the state.
Davido, who is a nephew of incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke, has been actively involved in his uncle’s re-election campaign under the Accord Party.
Governor Adeleke is seeking a second term and faces several challengers, including the All Progressives Congress candidate, Bola Oyebamiji.
The singer’s post quickly attracted widespread attention online, with users expressing mixed reactions to his allegation.
