The Federal Government has released more than N11.58 billion under the Renewed Hope Social Security Grant programme for beneficiaries in Jigawa State.
The intervention is targeted at 178,342 less-privileged households across the state’s 27 local government areas.
The Jigawa State Commissioner for Special Duties and Humanitarian Affairs, Auwal Sanka, disclosed this while briefing journalists on the progress of the programme.
Sanka said the programme initially captured 254,413 less-privileged households before being streamlined to 178,342 beneficiaries across the state.
According to him, implementation commenced in January 2026, with 126,639 households fully paid during the first phase.
“We are currently in the second phase of the programme. A total of 25,300 payment cards are under distribution to registered beneficiaries, and we hope to complete this before the end of August,” he said.
Sanka said beneficiaries under the second phase would receive a total of N1.9975 billion in accordance with the programme’s guidelines.
He explained that President Bola Tinubu had increased the grant from N10,000 to N25,000 per payment cycle to reflect prevailing economic conditions and market realities.
“The main objective of the Renewed Hope Social Security Grant is to support less-privileged families in improving their livelihood and nutrition security. It also aims to enhance the local micro-economy, as 99 per cent of the grant is projected to be spent at the local level,” Sanka said.
He said injecting such funds into the local economy would generate wider economic benefits, particularly by stimulating rural productivity and supporting overall national economic growth.
“If you inject such an amount of money into the local economy, it will have multidimensional positive impacts on rural and national productivity, thereby supporting GDP growth,” he explained.
