The Presidential Working Group on the National Policing Bill has announced that the Executive Bill package for the establishment of state police will be presented to President Bola Tinubu on September 3, 2026.
The announcement was made on Monday by the Chairman of the Working Group and Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, after the group’s inaugural meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
In July, President Tinubu inaugurated the presidential committee tasked with developing the legal framework for the implementation of state police across Nigeria.
Gbajabiamila said the group would conduct consultations on the completed draft before submitting the Executive Bill to the President. He also invited members of the public and stakeholders to submit memoranda, position papers, and practical recommendations on the proposed framework.
According to him, the national consultation process would give Nigerians the opportunity to review and contribute to key aspects of the proposal, including legislative clauses, safeguards, funding arrangements, and transition plans.
“The approved work programme is a seven-week, milestone-driven exercise running from July 27 to September 14, 2026,” Gbajabiamila said.
“The resulting Executive Bill package is scheduled for presentation to the President on September 3.
“Subject to his approval, a national consultation on the completed draft will follow, after which the document and supporting materials will be reviewed and prepared for formal transmission to the National Assembly.
“The timetable is demanding, but it is not a shortcut,” he added.
