A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dele Momodu, has urged President Bola Tinubu to campaign for re-election by presenting the achievements of his administration rather than relying on political rhetoric.
Speaking on Monday’s edition of Sunrise Daily on Channels Television, Momodu said the President’s performance in office would ultimately determine Nigerians’ decision in the 2027 presidential election.
“The 2027 election will not be difficult for Tinubu if he can show the records of his performance. Nobody hates him personally. Nobody wants to pick him out because they just don’t like him. It is about performance. Present your scorecards. Those running around spreading hellfire should instead channel that energy into showing Nigerians what the APC has achieved,” he said.
Momodu also criticised the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for blaming previous administrations for the country’s challenges, arguing that the party has spent too much time faulting its predecessors instead of demonstrating progress.
“What we see is the APC criticising itself and its predecessors, saying it inherited a bad government and economy. I have never seen a party consistently condemn its own previous administration the way the APC has done,” he said.
He questioned what the Tinubu administration had done to reverse the challenges it said it inherited.
“Even if we assume President Tinubu inherited a bad government, what has he done to change the direction of the country and improve the lives of Nigerians?” he asked.
Momodu also weighed in on the renewed rift between former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former President Olusegun Obasanjo, following Obasanjo’s recent remark that choosing Atiku as his vice president was the biggest mistake of his political career.
