Justice Faruku Bunza of the Kebbi State High Court, who was abducted a week ago, has regained his freedom and returned home safely.
The Kebbi State Police Command confirmed his release in a statement issued on Monday by its Public Relations Officer, Bashir Usman. According to the statement, the judge was released on Monday, with his freedom confirmed by both his family and the Kebbi State Ministry of Justice.
The Command disclosed that although the kidnappers demanded a ransom, it maintained its longstanding policy against the payment of ransom.
Police authorities said investigations have been intensified to identify and apprehend those behind the abduction, assuring that efforts are ongoing to bring the perpetrators to justice.
The Command also appealed to members of the public to provide credible information that could assist the ongoing investigation, assuring that all information received would be treated with strict confidentiality.
It further expressed appreciation to residents of the state and partner security agencies for their support and cooperation throughout the period of the judge’s captivity.
A family member had earlier confirmed to Channels Television that Justice Bunza returned home on Monday.
“We are in jubilation and full of gratitude to God for seeing our own return safely from captivity. He was just released and has returned home after spending one week with the bandits,” the relative said.
The family also thanked everyone who stood by them during the difficult period.
“We sincerely thank and appreciate the Kebbi State Judiciary, the security agencies, and the entire people of Kebbi State who contributed in different ways, offered prayers, and sent messages of sympathy. Your concern and support gave us strength, and we are grateful for your solidarity,” the family member stated.
