The Department of State Services (DSS) say it has closed its case against former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, in the alleged wiretapping trial at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
At the proceedings on Tuesday, prosecuting counsel, Oluwole Aladedoye, disclosed that at the court that the prosecution had concluded its case and would not be calling any further witnesses.
Following this development, defence counsel, Paul Erokoro, told the court that the former FCT minister’s legal team would file a no-case submission, adding that the prosecution had failed to present sufficient evidence linking the former governor to the allegations.
Subsequently, the defence tram requested two weeks to file its application, just as the prosecution sought a similar period to respond.
However, the defence renewed its request for a review of El-Rufai’s bail conditions, describing them as overly stringent. It specifically challenged the requirement for sureties who are Level 17 civil servants with landed property in Abuja’s Maitama or Asokoro districts, as well as the need for verification and attestation letters from the Kaduna State Traditional Council.
The prosecution opposed the application, insisting that eligible public officers capable of meeting the conditions were available and urging the court to maintain the existing terms.
In her ruling, Justice Joyce Abdulmalik dismissed the request to vary the bail conditions, holding that the requirements were not impossible to meet and that qualified civil servants with properties in the designated areas exist.
The court subsequently adjourned the case until September 22, 2026, for the hearing of the no-case submission and further proceedings.
