Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has said that the Peoples Democratic Party will produce Nigeria’s next president in the 2027 general elections.
Makinde made the statement while addressing party members and stakeholders during the 103rd National Executive Committee meeting of his-backed PDP faction, held on Monday in Abuja.
Speaking from the podium, Makinde emphasised the party’s readiness and potential to reclaim power at the national level.
“We should write it down. This gathering will produce House of Assembly members, will produce House of Representatives, will produce Senators, will produce Governors and will produce the next President,” he said.
At the meeting, PUNCH Online reported that the faction ratified the appointment of a 13-member Caretaker Committee headed by Tanimu Turaki, SAN, as chairman.
The decision followed a motion moved by the Edo State PDP Chairman, Tony Aziegbemi, and seconded by the party’s ex-officio member, Clement Fagboyede.
Other members of the committee include Taofeek Arapaja, who was appointed National Secretary, as well as Daniel Ambrose, Hamza Abuya, Ihediwa, Isah Abubakar, Theophilus Dakashan, Ini Ememobong, Aribisala Adewale Idowu, Baru Shaffi, and Okechukwu Obiechina.
PUNCH Online had also reported that the Makinde camp would formally unveil Turaki as head of the caretaker committee.
This follows a Supreme Court ruling that invalidated the national convention of the PDP held in Ibadan, Oyo State, on November 15 and 16, 2025, deepening the leadership crisis within Nigeria’s main opposition party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
